Special Edition, 2005 Dark
bay Oldenburg Gelding by Sandro Hit / Hohenstein, standing
approximately 16.1.
Here is a very special horse. He is
superb in type, quality and willingness to work, all in one package.
He is a dream horse for the ambitioned dressage rider. Special
Edition (barn name Sammy) is not only breathtakingly beautiful and
elegant, he also has quality movement and a heart of gold. He was
started in summer 2008 (as he turned 3 in June) and was ridden
inside and outside.
His famous sire Sandro Hit absolved
his stallion performance test in Medingen in 1997 and in 1999 he
became federal champion six-year old dressage horses as well as
world champion juvenile horse in Arnheim. He has meanwhile been
trained up to advanced class. Right from the outset, Sandro Hit set
standards not only in sport, but also in breeding. His first crops
of foals are convincing by their exceptionally aesthetic imprint of
type as well as their outstanding motions. His son Sandrit was the
1999 approval winner in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, while
Sommerhit was runner-up in Berlin-Brandenburg and Sandro Ace became
vice-champion in Oldenburg . Sunny Boy in turn, was awarded a
premium in Oldenburg , whereas Sommeliere likewise was approved in
Oldenburger in 1999. In the year 2000, Sandro Hit made the headlines
once more: His Brandenburg bred daughter Poetin won the Federal
Championship of three year old mares and geldings under
Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen. A number of his offspring attained
peak prices at different German auction sites, including his
daughter Starlet, who at DM 140,000 was the top lot of the
collection of broodmares at the 2000 Vechta spring auction. On top
of that, two Sandro Hit progeny were awarded the desired status “approved”
at the Oldenburg approval, as well as at the NRW approvals. In 2001
he sired the Federal champion and two vice champions.
His dam is a Statespremium mare by the famous
Hohenstein, another one of our favorite stallions. Hohenstein I was
the vice champion of the 1994 stallion performance test at
Adelheidsdorf, the 1995 Trakehner Riding Horse Champion as well as
third at the Federal Championships. He won his first advanced
dressage competition at the age of seven in 1998. In the meantime he
has had wins and high placements up to Intermediaire 1 and Grand
Prix.
Hohenstein was a hit from the start as a
breeding stallion. He has proven to be homozygotically dark coloured,
with his progeny overwhelmingly inheriting his black color (65%).
His tally of approved sons has grown to 12 including the champion
stallion Munchausen. Hohenstein was successful at the 2000 Federal
Championships with four offspring qualifying and the vice champion
Habitus who was later sold for 320,000 DM via the Verden auction. In
2000 at the Equilibra Auction at Towerlands Equestrian Centre, Essex
, England the stallion High Fashion by Hohenstein was sold for
85,000 Pound or DM 280,000. According to Hoofs and Horns this was
the highest price ever paid at a non-thoroughbred auction in England
. The FN breeding values regularly list Hohenstein as a top
procreator of dressage horses and this year he was ranked fourth.
According to the Hanoverian Verband in 2000 he was the second best
producer of dressage horses with an index of 183, the fifth best
transmitter of type with a score of 161 and equal third on the breed
values competition list with a score of 145%. In 1999 he was awarded
the distinction of Elite Stallion by the Trakehner association due
to his outstanding performance in both breeding and sport.
Special Edition himself is a horse with an
excellent hind leg and generous freedom in the shoulders. He has a
huge uphill canter and jumps through and carries himself very well
on his hind end already. He is forward in the trot with dynamic
movement and swings through his body. Just back under saddle, he
starts already to learn shoulder in and he is working on his trot
lengthening. He is very willing to learn, a horse which is fun every
day for every rider. He has a rhythmic walk with a good overstride.
This youngster is the dream for each trainer.
It is rather rare to find a horse with all these attributes in one.
With the correct education, he will find his way all the way to the
top. Dreams could come true with this young gentleman. He is a
horse, able to make others jealous and definitely to turn heads. He
is a big charmer, able to capture the attention of the onlookers. He
is ok to be cross tied, he loves his showers, the solarium time and
travels just like a pro. He loves to get his face rubbed with a
towel after his work sessions. One of his favorite activities is to
cuddle with his handler.
